Of course it is a Winston picture :). This is Winston when he's only 2-3 months old, on Halloween. I didn't plan to dress him up, but my sister-in-law talked me into getting him a costume on Halloween. We went to Tartet and got him this mailman costume. So hilarious!! He was drowsy because he had gotten a shot that day too. I tag anyone who wants to play, because this was fun!

Derby Recap

Sorry it has taken me so long to do a Derby post. I got home and was exhausted all week! I didn't have much down time in Louisville, so it took me a while to recuperate! Here are some pictures:

The weather was perfect on Friday, and unfortunately it was pretty rainy on Saturday. That's why I have more pictures from Friday. Saturday I wore a trench coat over my dress for most of the day. Both days were tons of fun, and I would absolutely go back to the Derby again next year.

Derby Update

So as you may know, the Kentucky Derby is this weekend!!! I can't believe it's here! After a lot of searching/meltdowns, I think I have decided on a dress! It's different than my original choices, but I think I am happy with this one:

I am going to wear it with nude Christian Louboutin Yo-Yos and a straw colored hat. I will post more pictures from the Derby of course on Monday.

Winston's Weekend

So this past weekend, we decided to take Mr. Winston for a swim in a pool. It was his first swimming experience, but since he's a lab, I had no doubt that he would be a natural. And he sure was!!

Derby Dresses

So I got home late last night, but all my sleepiness went away when I saw a box from DVF at my door. Derby dress #2 had arrived! I took some quick pictures so I could start the decision-making process. Here they are:

The first dress is the Diane dress in a pattern called Feather Fountain. Love this print.

The second dress is the Kate Spade Connect Four dress.

I have a feeling this is going to be a toughie. I think I am leaning toward one, but I'm not 100% sure yet. ANy thoughts? I apologize for the poor quality pictures, I will try to take some better ones soon!

Random Tuesday Update

Happy Tuesday everyone (if that's possible. But hey, it's better than Monday!) So I thought I would just give an update of how everything has been going for me, so here it goes:

- One of the two Derby dresses I ordered has arrived (the Kate Spade dress). The Diane von Furstenberg dress will be on my doorstep tomorrow, so then I can make a decision! I will post pictures and updates! If I go with the DVF dress, I think I am going for the Louboutin You Yous in the camel color. Any advice on his sizing? Once I find a hat that matches, I will be all set for the Kentucky Derby! I am starting to get really excited!!! I can almost taste the mint juleps now.

- Winston update: My little guy is already 8 months old! I cannot believe it! We took him in to get fixed about a week ago, so we had to put the lampshade collar on him for a while. I felt so bad about that, but I didn't want him pulling out his stitches. Well on Saturday morning, we woke up and he had gotten sick during the night! I thought he had chewed on and swallowed part of his collar (which he had, so I took it off). He was sick most of the day on Saturday. Poor baby! On Sunday, I made him some rice, which is supposed to be good for doggies with upset tummies. He was able to keep it down, which was a relief. However, he sort of had a cough, which scared me! Monday we took him in to get his stitches out, and they said they think he has kennel cough!!!! I didn't think they could get that after having all their vaccinations, but I guess they still can! I feel so bad for him! If it doesn't get better by Friday, back to the vet we go. . . .

- I tried out the airbrushing/spray tan on Friday. I think I like it. It doesn't look fake to me at all. I can see how this could be addicting.

Two Questions. . .

1.) Has anyone ever done a spray tan? I want to do one before the Derby, so I am doing a test run tomorrow. I am doing an airbrush session, so someone sprays it on me rather than just standing in a booth. I know I need to exfoliate (which I did this morning), and shave beforehand. Anything else I should know? Does it look good? Oh they also told me to wear loose clothing.

So I have another dress that I am eyeing for the derby. . it's a Diane von Furstenberg silf chiffon dress (on the left) Then of course, there is the Kate Spade polka dot dress. Both of these are en route to me now, so I can see them both in person. Once I get them, I will post actual pictures. Ahh decisions decisions! Oh and the first day (the Oaks) isn't AS fancy as the actual Derby, so I think I will wear a pastel DVF wrap dress for that day.

Derby Dress

So I think I changed my mind and am going with this dress for the big day at the Derby:

This is also a Kate Spade dress. Same cut, just a different pattern. It is a light pink, you just can't really tell from the picture. What do you think of this one?

Also, I will be attending both days of the Derby. Of course the second day is the BIG one, but I think people still dress up on the first day. Here is what I am thinking about for day one. Is this fancy enough? Any one know?

J.Crew Lilac Shift Dress Review

So I finally got around to taking a picture of this (pup and husband were in bed early last night). I ordered an XXS. I usually wear a 0/XS in J.Crew (since XXS is rarely an option). I'd say it fits me pretty well in the body. I am not swimming in it, which is always nice. It is on the short side, but I don't think it's TOO short. What do you think? Weekend Trip to SF!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine flew by way too quickly, as usual! I took a short trip up north to San Francisco. I had so much fun! I stayed right by Union Square, so there was plenty of shopping and eating nearby! On Saturday I did some shopping and brought home these 2 beauties with me:

Yep, I bought a YSL Muse Bag! It is a gorgeous navy color (not as bright as it looks in the picture). I bought the large size in Indigo. LOVE IT. I know it's been out for a while, but I can see why it's still so popular.

I was inspired by Kathy at Two Hands Full of Daisies to post about things that make me happy. Work and life have been nuts, so this is a nice opportunity to stop and think about all the good things :) So here they are, in no particular order:

Starbucks. Yep, it's that simple. A yummy coffee will definitely brighten my day

Winston. All I have to do is look at his sweet face and all my stress melts away (OMG he was SO tiny when we brought him home!)

Fashion magazines. I love reading fun, mindless magazines after thinking so hard all day!

Red Wine. Do I even need to explain?

Shopping: Yes, retail therapy is a real thing

Being Pampered: mani-pedis, trips to the spa.

And of course, my friends and family! I love spending time with them!

Sorry for being MIA for a while. . .work has been nuts. And let's just say I got sent to a VERY VERY cold location for work. It was 9 degrees when I woke up in the morning.. BURRRR! But now I am back and have defrosted a little, so I am back on the blog scene! I came home to a very anxious baby dog who missed me:

The hubby and I are making up for lost time by going out to a yummy dinner tonight at Koi in L.A., one of our favs. I can't wait!
There is one thing I need your help with. In April, I will be attending a very formal (I think) annual event. I will give you a hint: it's in Kentucky and horses are involved :) Any advice on what to wear???? I know I will need a fun hat, and a nice, spring, floral type dress. I just need some help picking out a dress! Any suggestions???

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! The hubby and I had a great time in Vegas. It was hard to come back and go to work on Monday, but Starbucks helped me through it. I have been promising to post some new Winston pictures, and I finally uploaded my pictures, so here are some new pictures of my baby doggie. . . who is getting SO big!

So I have mentioned this before, but I have been saving up for a while to splurge on a designer bag. I have always envisioned this bag being a Chanel, this one in particular:

Well today while I was at the mall, I came across this YSL Muse beauty:

I'm still not quite ready to buy one of these, but I do need to start attempting to decide which one these is going to come home with me this year. Any advice on how to decide? The YSL is cheaper, but I don't think that is going to be my deciding factor. The muse comes in many different colors, but I would definitely pick a basic color. I would get the Chanel in black. Hmm decisions decisions!

Thank God for raw hide bones

So we gave Winston his very first rawhide bone, and it's probably the best thing we have ever done! DOn't get me wrong, I love my puppy. But he is a handfull!! We have to constantly monitor him and watch our feet so he doesn't bite us. It's like having a baby! Once we gave him a bone, it kept him busy for hours! It gave mommy and daddy a break! So while puppy was occupied, I was able to snap some picture of some new outfits:

I got this top at the Ann Taylor outlet. It was on sale for buy one top, get one half off. I got another basic black turtleneck. I am wearing a Gap black cardigan over it.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent Saturday doing some outlet shopping. My biggest score of the day was this Tory Burch dress:

It was originally $295, and I got it for $70!! It is very flattering on, and it will definitely be worn come spring/summer.

I spent the rest of the weekend playing with Winston and baking (see post below).
I can't believe how fast my puppy is growing! He is heavier everytime I pick him up! Here is a current picture:

Pumpkin Baking Spree

So in honor of fall and Halloween coming up, I decided to go on a little bit of a pumpkin baking spree. I LOVE pumpkin. Like seriously love everything that is made with pumpkin. So I researched some recipes and gave them a shot this weekend. Here are my top two:

1.) Pumpkin Cheesecake:

Crust:
1 1/2 cups graham crumbs
5 Tbsp. butter, melted
1 Tbsp. sugar

Filling:
3- 8oz.pkgs. cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup canned pumpkin
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
Whipped Cream

Mix crust ingredients together, just till coated and crumbly. Press onto the bottom and 2/3 up the sides of an 8" springform pan. Bake for 5 min. at 350. Set aside.
Combine cheese, sugar and vanilla in large bowl, mix until smooth with an electric mixer. add pumpkin eggs, and spices, beat till smooth and creamy. Pour into the crust. Bake for 60-70 min. or till the top turns a bit darker. Remove from oven and allow to come to room temperature, then refrigerate. After it has thoroughly chilled, remove the pan sides and cut. Serve with whipped cream.

This is yummy! I have to admit, I cheated a little and bought a crust instead of making this one. But it's delicious. The cheesecake doesn't really look pretty, but it tastes delicious! This one won't last long in my house!

2.) Pumpkin Bread

1 1/2 cup flour

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup sugar

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup pumpkin

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 eggs

1/4 cup water

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp allspice

1/4 tsp clove

Mix flour, salt, sugar and baking soda together in one bowl. Mix pumpkin, oil, eggs, water and spices together in another bowl. Once completely blended, add the wet mixture to the dry mixture. Mix all together and then pour into a well-greased bread pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minuts.

I also highly recommend this recipe. YUM!

I picked up this sweater dress on Sunday, and I am really loving it!! I got it at Ann Taylor Loft:

It doesn't come with the undershirt - just a short-sleeved sweater dress. It comes in grey and black I believe. I will definitely be sporting this soon, with my new tall black Uggs! This is one of the reasons I love fall!

Since I've been so busy with the new pup, I haven't been doing a lot of shopping lately (which, of course, is good for the wallet). Today, however, Winston has been pretty mellow, so I took this opportunity to browse around online (while he naps in my lap :)). Here are some of things of my wish list now:

J.Crew Dapple Dot Cardigan. I haven't seen it IRL yet, but it looks super cute online. Anyone tried it on?

J.Crew Minnie Pants. I tried these on and love them. I'm waiting for them to come down a little. . . or for a discount code.

I have also decided to invest in another pair of Uggs. I have the short ones in the chestnut color, and I am thinking of getting a pair of the tall Uggs, in either black or chocolate. Any suggestions? I am leaning toward black, only because I can wear them with black leggings this fall.

Weekend with the Parents

So my parents are in town this weekend to visit "the grandpuppy" (well, they say they came to visit me, but I know better), and my mom and I decided lunch at The Ivy was a must. So today we headed over to Robertson for a nice lunch at The Ivy. I think The Ivy is a fun place to go every now and then. Many people think it's overrated, but if you go there knowing it's a touristy place, it's not bad. It has been hot here (like 80-90), so here is what I wore:

It's a casual restaurant, so I was dressed appropriately for sure. We had a great time, even though there were no celebrity sightings. Tomorrow I think it's time for some football and maybe some shopping!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. My time and attention has been spent on the below:

I mean, look at that face, how could I resist! My new puppy has been really good so far. He is smart and is learning quickly. He is also growing so quickly! He feels heavier everytime I pick him up! Needless to say, he is keeping the hubby and I SUPER busy. Other than that, I have been decorating and preparing for fall, my favorite season. Today it was actually chilly out, which made me super happy!
On another note, my hubby's birthday is about a month away, and I am trying to start brainstorming early. Why are hubbies so difficult to buy for???? I have already done the wallet, watch, etc. things. So now what do I get him??? I need your help!

Short but Sweet

Hey guys, this post is going to be short because I am pretty pooped from a weekend of puppy training and playing! We picked up the puppy on Friday afternoon and then started introducing him to his new home. He seemed to adjust quite well! He caught on to the whole potty training thing verrrrrry quickly. He goes right to the door when he needs to go out. So smart! For now, that is a good thing, but he may get too smart rather quickly! Here are some pictures of my new baby:

Oh how I love the internet

Yesterday I had a really funny conversation with my mom. She called me to tell me that she and my dad had found a sink online that they really wanted to buy for their bathroom. Why would she call me to tell me just this? She didn't. Next she asked me if I thought it was safe to buy it online. I had to pull the phone away for a minute while I hid my laughter. I didn't want to tell her that I order things online ALL the time, like 2-3 times a month! Maybe it's a generation thing, but I just thought it was a given, Internet Shopping = Okay. I told my mom it should be fine, and that was that. However, this conversation did get me thinking. . . what would I do without the internet????? Especially:

- Mapquest. I seriously have the worst sense of direction. EVER. I would never get anywhere on time without Mapquest. I do remember when my dad used to look up directions in his Thomas Guide. Ah the good old days.

- E-mail: I can't remember the last time I wrote an actual letter and stuck it in the mailbox. And I am not exaggerating. E-mail is a fast, easy means of communication, and I swear by it. I should count the number of e-mails I sent today, because it's ridiculous.

- Chatting/AIM: I was glued to the computer in high school and college thanks to AIM. I think it's how I learned to type! Chatting with friends via AIM was the thing to do.

- Google: I google EVERYTHING. Questions, restaurants, store hours, recipes. It's my go-to research tool. And I get really excited when the question I am typing pops up, meaning someone else researched the exact same thing!

- Fandango.com: I remember having to call the automated number for a theater to get movie times. And if you missed your movie, you would have to hang up and call again. Very inconvenient. Now all I have to do now is look online. Much easier!

- Online banking/bill pay: Talk about making paying bills easy! You don't have to worry so much about getting checks in the mail. Or running out of stamps. All you have to do is enter the payment amount online in your account and ta-da. . bills are paid!

- Online retailers: Online shopping saves me at work when I am bored! Bad for my wallet, but good for curing boredom! I definitely remember my first ever online purchase: a sweatshirt from American Eagle. Online shopping makes it easy to find your size, color, etc. and it prevents you from having to sit on the phone, calling stores looking for the product you want. And it can keep you out of crowded malls during the holidays. Love it!

- Instant Information: You can find basically anything and everything online. You can find it at 1 a.m. or 7 a.m. You can find restaurant hours, directions, recipes, how many quarts are in a gallon, etc etc etc. I mean anything. Before the internet, how did people solve debates? I know I have definitely searched for answers when in a large group and everyone is arguing over the answer. It has settled many bets.

There are many more things I love about the internet, these are just a few. I really don't know what I would do without internet. I don't think I would survive! Seriously. What do you love about the internet?

Sorry I haven't posted much, but the hubby and I have been very busy prepping for the arrival of our very first fur baby Winston. We get to pick him up this Friday, and we are very excited! I can't believe I will have a dog starting Friday. I have wanted one forever, and we are finally doing it! Here is another picture of my gorgeous pupper:

I have a feeling I will be quite busy once we bring him home, but it'll be worth it. I will keep you all updated with recent pictures once he is ours.

The Verdict: J.Crew Deco Skirt

So I made it to a J.Crew today after work to try on the deco skirt. I was warned by multiple people that the skirt is on the short side, so I didn't get my hopes up. I went into J.Crew expecting not to like it. I tried it on with the Frances cami, which I own. The store only had a 2, so the top is big, but I tried it on for looks anyway. Here it is, size 0:

The lenght is actually perfect!! I am 5'6 and the zero worked for me. Maybe the top half of my legs are short ? ? But as you can see, it falls a few inches above my knees, so definitely appropriate. And I do like it with the Frances top. I tried on the 2 as well, and I could make it work if I needed to, but it was a little big in the waste, so I stuck with a 0.
What do you think??

We made it to Friday! Well this is my last weekend before the puppy arrives, so I have a lot of work to do. A trip to Petco is definitely a must this weekend. I can't believe we get to pick him up next Friday, a week from today! I am very excited. And next Saturday night, the hubby is going to a baseball game, so Winston and I will be able to bond all night! I will post pictures and give you updates of how quickly he grows! I think I will want him to stay little forever! It's safe to say we will be busy parents for a while, training him!

Other than that, I will be cleaning up the house, watching football, and maybe do a little shopping. My mom showed me this Fall hand soap she picked up at Bath & Body, and now I MUST go get some! It's Pumpking Spice scent! YUM! And right now, they are 3 for $10. I also think it's time to decorate the house for Fall, so I think I have a fun weekend in store. I hope you all have a great one!

Crazy Week

I am sorry that I have been a bad blogger this week - work has been super crazy! A lot of drama going on, nothing that directly involves me thank God, but I still have to hear and see it all! UGH! Luckily, after tomorrow at 3, my weekend begins and I am off to Portland for the weekend! I am very excited to relax, enjoy some pumpkin lattes, and do some tax-free shopping! And guess what? To top off the weekend, Sunday when I get home I am. . . . . .

MEETING MY PUPPY! As soon as we land, the hubby and I are off to visit our breeder, play with the puppies, and pick ours out! I will post pictures on Sunday when I get home!!

Mentally Packing

In a few weeks, the hubby and I are taking a trip up to Portland, OR for the weekend! I am so excited for (hopefully) some cooler weather! I am already mentally packing! September in OR can be iffy - it can still be hot, or it can be cool. So I am planning to pack for cooler weather for now, and if it ends up being hot up there, I will change my plans. But I'm guessing it's more likely to be cool than hot. Maybe it will be cool enough to enjoy a pumpkin latter :)
Here is what I am thinking about taking:

My falling ruffles tank is an ivory color, but I couldn't find that. Also, I have to be honest. I don't own the J.Crew Lombard sweater, but I plan on leaving Portland with it :). Oh and the sweatshirt I bring will be my college (which is not Notre Dame).

Happy Sunday. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekends! I just wanted to post some updated to previous posts.

First, thank you for your advice on the nude pumps. For some reason, I was having a really difficult time deciding between the two!! And the funny thing is, if I had just ordered one pair, I would have been happy with either pair! It's so true that the more options I have, the tougher the decision! I decided to keep the leather pair. I figured they would suit my life style better (work, etc.). But I would recommend either pair to anyone!!

Second, my chocolate lab puppy is now just over 3 weeks old. I can't wait for the weekend we can bring him home! For now we are trying to stay busy and are preparing the house for Winston's arrival! When he is 6 weeks old, we get to visit and pick out OUR puppy, so I will take plenty of pictures that weekend to post.

Also, guess what popped back in my size on the J.Crew website? This shirt:

I had accepted the fact that I would probably never own it, since it flew off the shelves at all stores, and purchased this one instead:

Once I receive the contrast-stitch shirt, I will have to some how decide between the two! I will post pictures once it arrives.

Weekend Review

Happy Sunday everyone. I hope you had a great weekend! I had a pretty busy one. Friday night the hubby and I just hung out at home. We usually don't have much steam come Friday night after a long, busy week at work. So we rented some movies and hung out around the house.

Saturday, we went to a baseball game. It was a lot of fun, even though it was pretty hot out. After the game, we met some friends at a fun Mexican restaurant for some drinks. Here is what I wore out for drinks:

I got the dress at the J.Crew outlet back in May. The belt is from Banana Republic, and the gladiator sandals are from Nine West (got them last summer). I LOVE these sandals and will be very sad when they die :(

In preparation for fall, I picked up some jodhpur clips to clip on my jeans when I wear boots over my jeans. Here are some pictures:

I got these clips at a nearby equestrian store for only $3.50 for a pair. I have a feeling these will be very handy in the fall to help avoid the bunchy jeans syndrome.

So I had called my J.Crew and asked them to hold the animal print cardigan in XS for me. No problem. I had a 20% coupon to use (I got it after I gave in and applied for a J.Crew card). I got to the store and asked for my cardigan. Not in the cupboard. uh oh. So the manager went to go see if they had another XS while I looked around. I tried on a few things (the Anton sweater the falling ruffles tank), and when I came out the manager broke the news to me. . no XS in the animal print cardy. I wanted to purchase a navy Jackie cardigan and the falling ruffles tank, so I explained to him that I had planned to buy those things and use the 20% off coupon (there was a minimun $$ to be spent, of course). He said he would order me the cardy and apply 20% and give me 20% off my in-store purchase. Perfect. He was very helpful and apologetic, which I appreciated. The best part? He gave me back the 20% off coupon! YAY! That means I can use it again when I am ready to purchase the Anton sweater!!

I went to J.Crew today, and I finally got the chance to try on the Anton sweater. It seemed to be selling out quickly, because there were only 2 left. Luckily one was in my size so I could try it on. I painted my nails with OPI Miami Beet last night. It is a nice reddish-purple color. It got me thinking though - what is your favorite OPI or Essie go-to color? What is the one color you go to no matter what season it it, just whenever you want to wear a classic color?

I'd have to say mine is OPI's Mrs. O'Leary's BBQ. I think it's a nice red, not too dark, not too blood red.

J.Crew Perfect Shirt

So after reading everyone's reviews of the J.Crew contrast-stitch perfect shirt, I decided I wanted it. Well I think I decided this a little too late, because apparently EVERYONE wanted it. I couldn't find a zero. Anywhere. However, I did discover that The Grove J.Crew in L.A. had the washed chambray perfect shirt in a size 0, so I braved the 101 Friday afternoon traffic and headed to The Grove, skeptical. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised with the shirt. The material is great, and I love how the shirt has the button on the sleeves so I can roll it up! Here is

Casual Fridays

Another reason I really love Fridays is that it's casual Friday at work! This helps me justify purchasing normal non-work clothes such as jeans. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I hate how weekends go by soo quickly!! After work on Friday, I had time to hit J.Crew before the hubby was off work. The sale section was pretty sparse, but I did manage to score these Jakarta shorts for about $20 (with the 20% off):

After that, we headed to the beach for the weekend. It was great, very relaxing. I read quite a bit of Twenties Girl. So far so good! We came home today, and hubby sent me to the mall to get him some more button-up work shirts. Question about the J.Crew Jackie

Do you guys order your normal "J.Crew size" when you order a Jackie cardigan? I have a few of them in XS, and they are a little tight on the arms, but other than that, they fit fine. Do you have this issue? I believe I tried a S on once, and it looked too big, but I am trying to remember. I may just run to a store before ordering the ones on final sale, but I thought I would ask you guys first!
